Ex-Israeli soldier speaks out… what he says will change everything you think you know about Israel!

See summarised key points mentioned from this lecture below.

The talk by Eran Efrati was filmed in Denver, Colorado on March 3, 2014 as part of The Soldier and the Refusenik U.S. tour with Maya Wind. Eran talk about his experiences in the IDF and then more broadly discusses Israel, its relationship to the U.S. and the global expansion of militarism.

Eran Efrati, 28, was born and raised in Jerusalem. After graduating high school he enlisted in the IDF, where he served as a combat soldier and company sergeant in Battalion 50 of the Nachal Division. He spent most of his service in Hebron and throughout the West Bank. In 2009, he was discharged and joined Breaking the Silence, an organization of veteran Israeli soldiers working to raise awareness about the daily reality in the Occupied Territories. He worked as the chief investigator of the organization, collecting testimonies from IDF soldiers about their activities. He also guided political tours and to the West Bank and worked to educate Israeli youth about the reality of being a soldier in an occupying army. His collected testimonies appear in the booklet “Operation Cast Lead” and their most recent release “Our Harsh Logic”. Since leaving Breaking the Silence, his investigative reports appeared in The New York Times, The Washington Post and The Guardian. Today he is active with the Israeli groups Anarchists Against the Wall and Boycott from Within.

Key points from this lecture

  1. There is a heavy indoctrination in Israel, from an early age in schools, which uses the holocaust to create paranoia and fear against ‘the enemy’
  2. Israeli soldiers are trained intensively for a war, whilst their actual military duties are to subdue and control Palestinians
  3. Israeli soldiers routinely humiliate, intimidate, arrest, beat and kill civilian Palestinians to ‘protect’ illegal Jewish settlers in occupied territories
  4. Many Israeli soldiers are aware what they are doing is wrong, but have no way out and feel pressured to continue
  5. Palestinians who require medical attention, have to go through military checkpoints – to do this they require permits
    • They give these permits to lawyers of ‘Doctors without borders’ and then prevent them from going to the West Bank – meaning Palestinians do not receive permits
    • Israel uses a clever process to cover itself legally to the world
  6. During Operation Cast Lead, Israeli soldiers were traumatised and confused the atrocities they saw in Gaza
    • Israel would bomb civilian areas to clear the way for Israeli ground forces, use tank shells, air-strikes and illegal white phosphorus
  7. When wanting to speak out, via the ‘Breaking the Silence Campaign‘ the Haaretz newspaper refused to publish soldier testimonies after pressure by IDF Spokesman
    • Breaking the Silence campaign itself was censored by the IDF Spokesman
    • All media in Israel has to go through the IDF censorship
  8. The Israeli government and military make a lot of money by selling its weapons to other repressive regimes around the world,
  9. Israel tries and tests its weapons on Palestinians – ‘this is not (just) an occupation’ this is a laboratory for Israeli military weapons
  10. Israel uses undercover units in the occupied territories to start riots, and then justify the use of weapons against Palestinian protesters
  11. All police departments in the US are trained by the Israeli military and are taught the same brutal tactics used against Palestinians
  12. US police departments have already used such tactics in suppressing protests in the US, such as the Occupy movement
  13. Hit Israel where it hurts the most, boycott Israel

“Everybody knows, the apartheid regime will stop. The question is how fast, and how many people are going to die… until it will happen?”

ex israeli soldier speaks out against israel

  • http://unseatHarper.ca/ Paul Bronfman

    uses “aid” money from USA
and Britain and Canada to fund Israel’s
ongoing occupation of Palestine and Syria
and its military campaigns, which in turn serve as an laboratory to develop
weapons, surveillance technology, and tactics of population control…

***** that are then marketed across the globe.

    • Franz

Well – it is nothing new that Israel gets military aid from the US! But what I’m wondering where the money comes for Hamas’ rockets and weapons???? Is there some refugee and donated money misused??

      • andrew barret

yes there is hamas tend to take most charity money donated for the Palestinian people, and use it for tunnel building and arm supplies

        • Bilal Al Sheikh

lol media tells you tunnels you say tunnels, media tells you terrorists you say terrorist, media tells you Holocaust you remind every fuckin day of the damn holocaust..do you people gene have a brain?

          • andrew barret

sure we all know the main stream media is generally full of shit! however i am talking from personal experience as i lived out there for a few years as a pro palestinian, a few years there my views changed! Hamas is the main problem out there and also responsible for slaughtering their own people too! it is the general population of Gaza i feel for . getting rid of Hamas will not solve all the problems but it would be a huge step in the right direction

          • T Bennett

Probably just a hasbara troll but either way I’ll point out what you clearly miss. Majority of the problem existed for decades long before Hamas came into power. Israel does not have a proper constitution that properly defines who its citizens are, nor does it define its borders. It also keeps the people in Gaza under an illegal economic blockade. Israel is perfectly capable of accepting the two state solution on the 1967 border which even Hamas has indicated it will accept (in addition to renouncing violence). If Israel withdraws to these borders to create a viable two state solution, stop the ethnic cleansing, end the blockade of Gaza, etc. it will establish a lasting peace. If Hamas still fires a rocket after that, congratulations! You have won the support of the international community and can do whatever you want.

          • arieldaniel

If Gazans use the money to build schools instead of digging and producing weapons then…
So far they do not succeed.

          • T Bennett

Lol, do you actually read my comments? Why use the pretext of Hamas wanting to destroy you to reject a peace deal? Washington and the Knesset have never recognized Palestinians statehood despite the number of UN resolutions calling for one. Hamas is simply a by product of a decades long occupation and blockade. End blockade, pull back to the 1967 borders, if they still fire rockets, you’ve won my sympathy. Money? You mean from humanitarian aid? Most of that goes to repairing civilian homes destroyed by Israeli missiles. Israel has a bad track record of targeting civilians. Only excuse the can come up with is Hamas uses ‘human shields’. One of the oldest arguments in the book. There is no systematic evidence to show Hamas uses humans shields. The same cannot be said for IDF soldiers. The humans shields argument was used in the invasion of Lebanon. Evidence of Hezbollah using human shields was later found to be largely fabricated. The US cried out human shields during the Vietnam and Iraq invasion. Same BS propaganda. Considering how IDF targets children playing on the beach, hospitals, UN shelters, police stations, electric plants, etc. what makes you think underground bomb shelters would help Hamas protect its civilians? Israel can simply assert that Hamas used human shields in the tunnels. Lol. Blaming Hamas for the death toll in Gaza is like blaming the Jews for the Holocaust. Either way you look at it, Israel broke the 2012 ceasefire agreement first.

          • HDbfly

            Yes. Thank you. Brilliant.

          • SOLLY

every ‘good’ thing comes to an end , life is like a wheel , or shall we say ”évery dog gets its day”

          • Shoraida A. Umpa

Andrew Barret, long before the Hamas came into existence the Israeli soldiers have already been killing the Palestinian people that’s why there’s Hamas, a resistance group to defend their rights. If there’s no Hamas who would protect them? Do you expect the Israelis to defend the Palestinians? Who would protect these people?

          • Braqa

Exactly, this Andrew Barret doesn’t get at all what means protection..

          • arieldaniel

            The Hamas destroyed Gaza.

          • Kent Alf

Not as efficiently as Israel did though.

          • SOLLY

HAMAS was a creation of israel by ILAN PAPPE and MIKO PELED both jewish professors !!!

          • Kent Alf

And who kept the economy going through the tunnels they built while Israel was pulling a noose tight around Gaza? The people depended on Hamas and Israel probably took that into consideration when they made Gaza suffer.

          • HDbfly

Hamas exists because of the Israeli occupation. If there wasn’t an occupation and Palestinians had control of their own economies, travel, resources, there would be no Hamas. Hamas is a reaction to Israeli occupation.

          • mokka75

So if Hamas was gone the palestinian people would get their land back and be able to live there in peace….? :-0 Seriousely…??

          • Braqa

If they take off Hamas its like leaving Palestinian without protection pls i have lived at the same moments in Kosovo if Liberty Army of Kosova wouldn’t fight as a guerrilla style war against serbian occupation army we wouldn’t be free nowadays they would kill all of the population or move them abroad from their land but LBA slowed them by counter-fighting till USA bombed Serbia and than people declared the independence of Kosovo so now there’s no fight (which is the best solution to do in Palestine to)…..the same shit is happening in Palestine….and HELL YEA i hate medias they did the same thing in our country during the war many people died many massacre committed to my people by serbians till the truth breached out cus fucking media were covering serbians acts and genocides ….Exactly same shit is happening in Palestine so pls stop defending or supporting Israel occupation against Palestine unless u have been and lived during the war like i did its easy to talk from PC but hard for those who lived in the time of war :/ i have seen enough with my own eyes so i wish that you and others will never live the same moments as me :(

          • Emad Intifada

There is no actions of Hamas in the West Bank yet Israel still bombs and kills there. Shut the fuck up. Stop acting like you know what your talking about.

          • SOLLY

ask the christians in palestine , how HAMAS helped them ???

          • arieldaniel

OK what do you tell us?

        • Mammy KenJaworska

Prove it. The majority of money given by charity is spent to fix and heal the people who have been mutilated by Israeli weapons.

          • andrew barret

far from it, the majority of the funds out there are controlled by Hamas and very little of what gets sent out actually goes where it should.

          • Mammy KenJaworska

I dont know anyone anywhere who ever donated money to Hamas. Most money is given to internationally trustes groups like the redcross. Show me a link or charity for Palestine that is connected to Hamas?? This is propaganda you have no proof of this. And absolute proof of this is the size and quality of the weapons Hamas use. Really if they did get money dont u think they would buy better weapons. The rockets are homemade and useless. Pointless acts and acts that are not supported by the majority of Palestine. Fundamentalists exist on both sides but they are not the majority.

          • andrew barret

they have pretty effective rockets, and Iran is a well known supplier! look we can agree to disagree. Hamas are well known to surpress their own people. i have friends on both sides all who want peace.

          • Mammy KenJaworska

If they are so effective. How many Israeli deaths?
In no way do I stupidly believe that all Palestinians dont hate jews but the argument that Israel needs to be so heavy handed and to abuse human rights and to ethnically cleanse because some do is total bullcrap. ISRAEL wants all the land and its the survival of the fittest. The people who know the most about suffering are not enlightened at all because if u truly believed what the nazi’s did was wrong and u were civilised enlightened people, you would never ever do what you are doing now. If this is about being jewish what about the jewish belief of Tikkun Olam that it is every jews obligation of faith to heal the world. The people of Israel and they actions they are taking is destroying the world not healing it or making it a better place. Israel needs help before its too late.

          • andrew barret

hey of course they are not doing a perfect job? i agree to the fact that things need to change! you’ve studied history you should know what ethnic cleansing is. this is not ethnic cleansing, and not all Israeli’s are Jewish! funny how alot of muslims agree to Israels existence, one Jordanian sheik goes as far as to say Jerusalem belongs to the Jews! the Quran doesnt mention Jerusalem once .. as soon as people wake up and realise that this has fuck all to do with the land, it is a religious war.. i only hope that peace comes eventually and that both parties can live side by side in peace and dignity. however is never going to happen!

          • Mammy KenJaworska

The jewish people have proved a million times to the world that they are to be admired. So many amazing jewish people to inspire us. If u are strong be merciful. Blessed is the peacemaker. Do the people of Israel want to be rememberd for this. Be remembered for making peace and for healing the world.
shalom to all my jewish brothers and sisters I hope you see what you can do to make the world a more peaceful place without punishing the people of Palestine.

          • Mammy KenJaworska

I really think u need to watch this and really ur really off the mark with the this is a religious war because so many of the jews all over the world do not agree with u.

          • andrew barret

seen it already, i’m bang on the mark sure some will disagree but the fact is many agree with me from Jews to some Muslims and even the majority of Palestininian friends i have agree. difference is i used to be pro palestinian my beliefs and views were shaped and changed by what i witnessed with my own eyes living out there for over four years! yours are shaped by what you read and hear! so look we will have to agree to disagree. one thing is for certain though any death outside of Hamas is a tragedy and a shame and my prayers and thoughts are to the innocent parties caught up in this !

          • Mammy KenJaworska

To me you seem deeply confused and float from glory glory Israel to being proPalestine.

I AM NOT ON EITHER SIDE. I am on the side of justice and reason.

I want to be a friend to both sides.

I dont judge Israel and in many ways I can understand the origins of this but I advise Israel not to dehumanise the Palestinian people. Sure there are some terrorists but there are also crazy zionists. Lets not focus on the extreems here.

If the US walked away from Israel really I would not like to think what would happen, that day could come.

I would advise Palestine not to reelect Hamas. To stop firing stupid rockets. To find a leader who is a lawyer and to save whats left.

a very interesting option I took in Irish history was with an Irish professor called Ronan Fanning and it was Irish history from the British perspective. Palestinians need to see where they really stand and they have to realise the war is over and better to elect a leader with a world view who understands the bigger picture and not just what injustices have been done. They need to view this from Israels perspective and realise how weak they are now.

True friends always try to make u see when u are going too far.

Both sides need true friendship from the world now. The price being paid is too high.

one of the sadest quotes I read was by a grandfather who was burying his son and grandson in Gaza. As the body was entering the ground he said ‘ I am starting to believe that this is the only way any of us are ever going to get out of here’.

I wonder how many jews felt exaxtly the same way in the concentration camps.

‘Never again’ jews, muslims, catholics, mormans whatever you believe we are all gods people and this earth belongs to all of us.

          • SOLLY

if you want the real truth about israel google : MIKO PELED , ILAN PAPPE , NORMAN FEINSTEIN, EFRAN EFFRATI all jewish professors , from israel and you must listen to IRISH M.P. DAVID NORRIS !!!

          • Shoraida A. Umpa

No Muslims will agree to you that’s for sure!

          • T Bennett

Actually, the Quran does mention the sacred place of worship in Jerusalem. From what I’ve read, God did not promise any specific group of people the land. Only those who establish a ‘covenant’ with God. The Torah/Talmud do not end with God granting sovereignty to the Jews, and Jews don’t accept the covenant of Islam so no it does not belong to them either by biblical/Quranic laws or international law. Ethnic cleansing of East Jerusalem and the West Bank are still continuing regardless of the Arab Israelis who live in ‘Greater Israel’.

          • Kent Alf

Funny! I’ve always understood one had to be a Jew to become an Israeli citizen and that Israeli citizenship is offered to any Jew in the world, no matter where they were born. Perhaps that was just Palestinian propaganda.

          • SOLLY

incorrect ! as per your own western imperialists neo con news it is all about illegal occupation , verified by the following professors : ILAN PAPPE , MIKO PELED , EFRAN EFFRATI, NORMAN FEINSTEIN ,AND OTHER INTELLIGENT PEOPLE

          • MagnaCharter

They have really useless rockets, that much is very well known

          • SOLLY

in spite of the israeli military equipment , obviously supplied by that rogue called america , israel was intent on destroying the tunnels , end result , HAMAS IS STILL HAMAS , israel has more enemies now , result: israel lost and the previous war !

          • Glyn W

where are these pretty effective rockets? and why have they not used them?

          • Kent Alf

Agree to disagree? Why doesn’t Israel try that tack?

          • SOLLY

are you intelligent ? every arab country has problems created by the western imperialists neo cons , the whole arab world is in turmoil , IRAN is one of the most stable countries in spite of the sanctions , the other 2x stable countries is malaysia and indonesia , these 3x countries has no evil eg alqaeeda and isis groups

          • SOLLY

that is not andrew talking , its the western neo con imperialists talking !

          • Kent Alf

And I believe the contracts for repairing the carnage will go to Israeli firms.

        • T Bennett

Why is there a need to donate charity to Gaza? Perhaps because of the illegal blockade on Gaza? It’s also cynical to point out abused funds from Hamas. If Hamas is a ‘terrorist’ group which abuses foreign aid, what position does that put Israel in for selling weapons (from foreign aid) to China?

          • Pari Doozakhi

T Bennett , Ok you want to say Hamas is terrorist and use a typical media cop out word by all means..However Zionism and Israeli Occupation and Creation is the BIGGEST TERRORISIM..GO read the Talmud..which religion allows you to hate and says you may kill gentiles..your a typical victim of media..Netanayu and Hitler are the same shit but from different assholes!!

          • T Bennett

Lol, perhaps you should read my comments better. I don’t disagree with you. My comments are in reply to barret so I sometimes put his quotes there. I don’t believe Hamas is the source of this decades long problem.

          • Papan Tanda

            fuck jews

      • Mammy KenJaworska

The whole of Palestine is Occupied, either the Israeli soldiers and army are incompetent and allowing weapons to breach their checkpoints and blockades or Maybe israel buys them. You see no rockets no excuse to deny peoples human rights. No pleas of self defence. ISRAEL and Hasbara the Israeli ministry of propaganda pay people to promote lies about Hamas and the Palestinian people. Yeah its like something from 1984, but the really fucked up part is its actually happenening.

        • Michael James McClendon

The Arab world as a whole is none to friendly to any one who isn’t their particular flavor of Islam. Keep in mind we have failed state after failed state there. This is not the result of Isreal, or unlucky coincidence, this is the result of Islam and theocratic rule. I don’t doubt that Israeli solders have done terrible things (giving young men automatic weaponry tends to increase the odds of that outcome), but make no mistake if Hamas had the ability to kill every man woman, and child in Isreal tomorrow they would. The same can be said about the other Islamic radicals in regards to the rest of the non-Muslim world as well. Can you think of its equivalent in other religiouns? I’m an athiest and pretty much think all religion is illogical mind rot, but there are some minds more decomposed than others.

          • khairul azhar

Are you sure? we should look at the facts, after almost 3 weeks,

-israel killed 1,300 people, more than 95% are Palestinian civilians.

-Hamas Killed more than 60 people and 100% of the Israeli soldiers.

You said Hamas would kill the people of Israel if there is a chance. you are wrong! Hamas kills Israeli civilians, but they do not want because it’s not our religions. If you know, Hamas was able to sneak into a military camp and killed soldiers israel israel easily when the camp was heavily guarded. do you think there is a problem for Hamas to sneak into the houses of Israel and kill them? but why did they not do so? because they do not kill innocent people. and they will not attack, but to defend the homeland. expropriated land!

          • arieldaniel

Hamas shoots thousands of rockets on Israeli citizens.
            A simple fact.
Some rockets fell on Arab villages.
            Another fact.
In Syria there are already more than 170,000 dead people.
Do you know what Hamas did to Fatah?

          • vetipie

have you asked yourself why Palestine shoots rockets to Israel?

          • Glyn W

Hamas have not shot thousands of rockets at all, now give the death rate facts and leave Syria out of it.

          • Kent Alf

We’re not discussing two murderous and barbaric regimes here, only one, Israel.

          • http://omegahex.wordpress.com nicjondon

HAHA – rockets sound intimidating enough but once one realizes that they are just bottle rockets serving as the Palestinians only retaliation to a hoard of blood thirsty psychos…. it’s not really a war – it’s a genocide.

          • Grant

Khairul, Hamas hasn’t killed Israeli civilians because they don’t have access. Just like their rockets have killed less only due to sophistication of Israel’s iron dome.

          • Glyn W

Iron dome, lol, my arse. Why dont we all just get iron domes and then no one can come under rocket attacks, but unfortunately there is no such thing as an iron dome, just crap rockets fired from Palestine/Gaza in defence.

          • arieldaniel
          • Kent Alf

Hamas kills less than two dozen collaborators, Israel kills two thousand Gazans, including women and children, and you’re complaining about whom? Sheesh!

          • arieldaniel

          • MagnaCharter

There are plenty of Christian radicals in the US who call for Armageddon as part of “the Rapture”. There is huge political leverage in the Right in America appealing to these ‘decomposed’, as you put it, extremists. Islam has many shades of opinion, and in terms of sheer numbers, probably less extremists than in the Christian US. The bulk of Israeli support comes from just these people too..so please don’t call the kettle black.

          • Sammy

You jewish bigot. The Muslims gave refuge to the jews and allowed them to live freely in Palestine. The jews then became an enemy within. The very people that gave refuge are now the oppresed victims. Of course Hamas would kill every jew ! why wouldn’t they ?

      • Michael John Anderson

Hamas, it is claimed, is Israeli-backed and funded. I can’t vouch for this or refute it

      • Ian Heald

Hamas gets its money for weapons from wealthy individuals in Qatar, Bahrain, and Saudi Arabia, as well as their governments. I wouldn’t be surprised though if Israel or the US was buying Hamas weapons so then Israel could cry threat, which Hamas is anyway unlike Fatah, and then drop bombs on Gaza.

NYDP Sanchez told colleagues he had borrowed the idea from
Israeli’s illegal methods of controlling the military-occupied West Bank, the

But the proposal ignored some important differences between

  • NadineLumley

this situation is far more complicated than the expressed view of one ex-soldier – not that his view is illegitimate

    • Mammy KenJaworska

Its simple stop occupying land that does not belong to you Israel and allow your neighbours to live like human beings.

      • Justin Tran

That would have to be mutual, however, because Palestine–Hamas in particular–regularly send off rockets to Southern Israel. Not supporting illegal settlements, but the rockets are not one sided.

        • Mammy KenJaworska

Who says Hamas are firing those rockets I mean they must be total genius’s to be able to manage it because something no one mentions is that all of Palesine is OCCUPIED do u even understand what that means. This is not two separate countries with one freestate firing at another. ISRAEL completely controll Palestine. The rockets even existing is a failure of the Israeli army because they control everything. Water electricity the streets. They can search any house anywhere in palestine without permission so they dont need to bomb. People do not understand that the people of Palestine are completely under occupation. Google it.

          • arieldaniel

If they would use their energy to build schools instead of rockets they would live. They are more intrested in killing Israel than living. Israel has left Gaza for them to live.
            What did they do?

        • andrew barret

          rightly said !

        • T Bennett

Majority of ceasefires (like the last one) were broken by Israel first. I agree that the murder of 3 teens was brutal and uncalled for, but Hamas did not claim responsibility. I also don’t think self defense applies when the IDF raided the West Bank arresting hundreds of Palestinians arbitrarily, killed 5 Palestinians, and resulted in one teen being burned alive. Netenyahu simply used their deaths as a pretext which he tweeted to hold Hamas responsible. Rocket fire was response to the WB incursion and refusal of Israel to release Hamas militants who were arrested in the West Bank. It is like Operation Cast Lead all over.

      • andrew barret

you tend to forget it was the Arab world that tried to wipe out Israel first! secondly Jews have always lived there, if you knew your history a small bit and stopped relying on google! after the romans crushed the JEWISH rebellion they renamed the land as Syria-Palestina all Jews from that point forth were also known as Palestinians ! its in the history books honey!

        • Mammy KenJaworska

Actually i have a degree in history and politics from UCD ireland darling. Who mentioned anything about religion I used the word Palestinians. Two wrongs dont make a right. Look at ulster in ireland. The english planted Scotish protestants on Irish land. As a southern Irish catholic I am not attacking them and telling them its our land. Thankfully our society is civilised. We have terrorist groups but they represent themselves most people want peace. Who started it is not important. Nothing gives isreal the right to ethnically cleanse the arabs from Palestine. Its morally wrong and its genocide.

          • andrew barret

i mentioned nothing about religion??? i live in southern Ireland too! in west cork i’ve been here for a few years now and wouldnt by any means call myself an expert on the troubles here in the past, funny how people think they are an expert on a land most have never stepped foot in! and i hardly think it’s genocide and ethnic cleansing when they are also providing aid and hospital treatment, the same as they have for wounded syrians from their civil war…. ah yes but that good news isnt worth mentioning is it? also no one blinks an eye when its arabs killing arabs sudan, syria, regime in Iran? and the attrocities committed by palestininians never hit the world media such as times they,ve raided Jewish family homes and beheaded young jewish children when i was living there it was a whole family of five the youngest six months old beheaded! as far as i am concerned thank God for Israel!

          • Mammy KenJaworska

God help u man. You are completely off the rails just like Israel. Good choice of a place to live. Irish people are renound for their hospitality and as u know jew, catholic, muslim they all live together peaceful. If Israel is so great why dont u live there.

          • T Bennett

Genocide can be defined in terms where you make it impossible for people to continue practicing their culture in a region. Ethnic cleansing as I pointed out is still ongoing in East Jerusalem and the WB. No one pays much attention to when Palestinians ‘terrorize’ colonizers in the West Bank because 1) the occupation of the West Bank is illegal under international law 2) colonizers are the primary source from where all terrorism in the region is derived where they suppress peaceful protests, burn olive groves, evict people from their homes, etc. 3) Israel has never stopped expanding the settlements even during peace talks (the minimum sign of goodwill that you want peace).

If you really knew history you would realize that expulsion (what most moderates would call ‘transfer’) was embedded in the Zionist ideology and was inevitable. The ethnic cleansing for 6 months led the the Arab ‘invasion’ in 1948.

Jews have always lived there ?? Im pretty sure that arabs have lived there for quite a while too , and in greater numbers over the last 2000 years ( Remember Egypt used Hebrew slaves to help build the pyramids) …. Also you have to separate religion and race , anyone can follow a religion and anyone can change their religion , you cant change your race … So the notion that one religion can ascribe themselves property rights because of their religion doesn’t seem logical , especially considering most European and US Jews ancestors never lived in the middle east and about 50% of Israeli Jews are from European decent and about 45% of Israeli’s are (Surprise !!) From Arab decent

        • John Roger Holte

You lie. Check the numbers for the years 1946 to 1948. Israelis performed ethnic cleansing of non-jews in Palestine. These are jewish sources: https://www.jewishvirtuallibrary.org/jsource/Society_&_Culture/israel_palestine_pop.html

CBC Sunday interviews Dana Golan. She’s a former veteran of the Israel Defense
Forces (IDF). In her new book, she interviews 950+ disillusioned Israeli
ex-soldiers who dare to speak openly re Israel apartheid and illegally
      occupying Palestinian land.

former Israeli IDF soldiers reveal truths about Israel’s institutionalized
practices of intimidation and brutality towards Palestinians in the occupied
territories, including night raids and arbitrary arrests unrelated to security,
the use of human shields, etc.

  • Franz

The first statement suggests that “the enemy” is just a pure paranoia of Israel. My experience while working in the middle east was that every Arab told me openly that they are just waiting for Israels weakness to push them into the Mediterranean … so much of: the enemy is just paranoia ….

    • Mammy KenJaworska

Yes and how many israeli settlers on the westbank are actually,’ not threatening to’ they attack Palestinian people everyday and many many of them would wish the people of Palestine would all die. There are extreemist on both sides but there are many people too who just want to live in peace.

  • andrew barret

actually more of these soldiers are starting to come clean, one guy involved in an unlisted unit has just brought out part 1 of his book Ghost Unit – Chasing Destiny. available on Amazon kindle, talks of stealing passports off american, british and canadian heroin addicts

it feels so sad. he knows and they know. and that will never leave any ones hearts while they are alive. i feel sad for all of them. for the opressed and the oppressors led by its dictatorship. its painful just to listen, but for them (the palestinians) to go through that. there is a ceasefire for now and i pray that this will be the end of conflict in that region.

  • andrew barret

this guys view is in no doubt interesting however it is one guys testimony on what he viewed and experienced, some of it isnt exactly the worlds best kept secret, for example as far as i was concerned it was common knowledge that Israeli’s train american security and police services, i knew this years ago they also train other military and police around the world, germany, argentina etc, whats the big deal? as far as the Palestinian territories , i do believe alot needs to change and there are unfair issues and abuse that needs to stop

Pure propaganda. Israel gave back Gaza against the better judgment of many, only for Hamas to use it as a launching pad for rocket assaults on Israel. Their manifesto is a matter of public record. And that’s the bottom line in this BS story.

I must say that this is one of the most explained anti-Israeli messages that I’ve seen in a while, good for you. The problem is that it concerns only a small portion of the whole the story and that your accusation that Israel’s whole point of the occupation is testing weapons on Palestinians is absolutely baseless and far from reality.
Let’s start from the “Indoctrination” – a clever choice of words, no doubt. I’m sure that now people imagining students in school being fed with fear inducing subliminal messages, memorizing and reciting thousands of texts regarding the holocaust. So no, that’s not the case. There is of course education, students are educated and being taught about the holocaust which is absolutely normal because it is an important part of our history and we’re definitely not in paranoia and fear against Palestinians because of that. That is a baseless accusation, and you can check yourself the history books being used in schools (I doubt you ever did that).

I’m not sure what’s your point about Israeli soldiers being trained heavily for war, because we’re surrounded with enemy countries that threaten our existence (just to remind you, the leaders of Iran had no problem stating in the past that their goal is to end the existence of Israel).

Israel is a democratic, western, organized state with a very developed and independent court system, which has no problem in criticizing the actions of the Israeli government and overruling their decisions in some cases. Israel has other organization, independent and governmental that follow, observe and criticize the actions of the state. That’s how it is supposed to be in a democratic state. Yes, the occupation is not perfect, yes, we have problems, and we have no problem in admitting it. No country in the world is flawless and especially not when facing the dangers that Israel is facing and there’s not even one Western country that faces a reality even close to ours.

The checkpoints are problematic and the soldier there are harassed and faced with psychological pressure from the Palestinians and the Israeli extreme-right, of course there are going to be problems but everything possible is done to minimize the cases of mistreatment (show me one army free of flaws, and I will take my words back).
You also say that Israel uses a clever process to cover itself legally, what kind of a clever process? Enlighten me please. Israel suffers from an un-proportional amount of attacks from the UN human rights commission, so I would really would like to know about that process you’re talking about.

The same goes about the settlements, there’s a lot of criticism about them, and I myself disagree with this policy (I remind you that we’re in the only democratic country so I can express my own opinion) but that doesn’t mean that they’re the root of the problem. The fact is that in 2005 Israel expelled all of IT’S settler citizens from Gaza and the whole territory was under the control of the Palestinians ever since, and look what happened, they developed and bought thousands of rockets, built underground tunnels leading to Israel and threaten the security of more than a third of the Israeli population (And all of that bought among others by the money of American and European tax payers – they sent the Palestinians more than 5.5 billion dollars since 1993!). I know you’re probably going to say that this is because of the “siege” of Gaza, but if you check the facts, the “siege” was a reaction to the Hamas attacks (the definition siege is problematic, because throughout the entire “siege” Israel has permitted most of the goods to enter Gaza, from Israeli checkpoints that, you guessed it, being attacked constantly by Hamas terrorists).

Breaking the silence is a well-known campaign in Israel, and I don’t know where you live but in the digital age the censorship is quite powerless, and unlike our friends in the middle east the internet is not censored (hey, look at
Turkey which was a civilized, western country until not so long ago) and even if the campaign wasn’t published in Ha’aretz (if that’s actually the case, didn’t check that) it was well seen on the internet. It’s an absurdly small group of people, traumatized and in pain I have no doubt, but when you’re taking in account that there are tens of thousands of soldiers that were participating in the conflict it’s obvious that their experiences are specific that don’t represent the big story.

And now to my point – Some of what you’re accusing Israel is somewhat true, and we’re a democratic liberal state and we have no true desire in the occupation as a nation. Mistakes are made everywhere in the world all the time. On the other hand, our friends like the Palestinian Authority don’t have this system of self-criticism (at best a very poorly constructed one) the same is about other middle eastern countries, and it’s a fact – You can check any report of freedom of speech or press to confirm this. You DON’T boycott a country which is doing anything in its power to solve this conflict and to minimize casualties, you should boycott the countries and bodies that do not.

You’re probably from the BDS movement, which means that you’re a propaganda fed coward. I know quite a lot about the BDS and their tactics, very sad and cowardly ones. You can’t face the whole truth and choose to dwell on petty bits of information that serve your purpose – to boycott the only true democratic and liberal state in the middle-east that is the leader in high-tech, lifesaving medicine and so much more.

Let’s get this back into perspective – free from the amazing Zionist psy-ops that have been preventing us from seeing the obvious all along. At some level, we have always known that Israel is an expressly “Jewish” state, forcing itself ever-deeper into a multi-ethnic or non-particularly-Jewish region. The violent racism of that obvious reality is self-evident. So, the details we’re hearing now are actually just revelations of what we should have been expecting from violent racism all along. “The truth” is finally slipping out of the Zionist jive-bag – including a clear wake-up to the obvious racism of the whole notion of forcing any ethnic-preferential state into anywhere – and also including the gory details which such racism ALWAYS entails. The flaming racism of forcing a “Jewish” state into Palestine has always been the debate-ender, and the Zionists have known it, and that is why they’ve subverted the antiwar movements and the Palestinian Authority with people who would pretend not to see the obvious and would erase it by authoritative omission. Those days are gone now.

    1. Zionist is an obsolete term. Zionists were people that believed that Jews living in and around Jerusalem, their ancestral homeland, should be granted their own state which would serve as a Jewish national homeland. Their goal was achieved, legally, in 1948. Since then there is no point to calling someone a Zionist. Though people who like to use this term as some kind of slur or insult are almost assuredly either vicious ignorant racists, or they get their opinions from people who are, so what you learned from a young age was partially true.

      2. a 2nd Holocaust WILL happen, if Israel’s neighbors get their way. I’ve lived in Saudi Arabia for six years. I currently live in an “Arab” neighborhood in what some would call the West Bank and others might call Palestine. I know these people very well. If they get their way, the Jews of Israel will die by the millions. This isn’t scaremongering it’s accepting facts. Just a few weeks ago two young Muslim men with Israeli citizenship entered a synagoge and attacked and killed several rabbis praying there without provocation. They were shot dead by Israeli police. Muslims in the West Bank were celebrating this. They were walking through the streets waving axes and singing the praises of these two murderers, all because they killed a handful of Jews. This won’t in any way help the cause of the Muslims in Israel. It will only lead to more hatred, more blodshed, more violence, more “oppression.” It makes them seem less sympathetic and hurts the chances that there will ever be a sovereign Palestinian nation. And in every way it was just a senseless act of violence against innocent people. Yet… they were celebrating… all because some Jews were dead. My students in Saudi Arabia used to tell me that Hitler was a really great man because he killed lots of Jews. I told them that he also killed a lot of Muslims, gypsies, Slavs, Poles, retards, handicapped, homosexuals… they said they didn’t know that, but even if it was true, it was still okay because killing the Jews made up for any other bad thing he did. Usually in a class of 20 students I might have one who would disagree and say no, Hitler was actually not a good guy, but the other 19 would still be convinced he was great. I wish I was making all this up but I am not. Some of the nicest, most liberal and most well-adjusted people I’ve met in the Muslim world tell me after they’ve become comfortable around me that they believe all Jews are evil monsters and that they should die.

    • Noone of Consequence

      3. training for war is smart. Israel is a small country with a small population. They are surrounded by many large countries with large populations full of people that want to kill Israelis. Israel has been invaded multiple times. It really doesn’t matter when the last invasion was, the other countries that have invaded them before would likely invade again if they hadn’t been so embarrassingly defeated every time before. Once they forget that embarrassment it’s likely that they will try again. Not much has changed since 1948, or ’67, or ’73.

    • Noone of Consequence

      4. 16 minutes in… this is a very harrowing, terrible, sad story. An objective person would say it represents the fact that war is hell. That racism and bigotry.. the kind that led to the Arab invasion of Israel in 1948 and every subsequent bad things that has happened since then.. is awful. That any situation where you give young men weapons and authority over other peoples’ lives bad stuff is going to happen and we should seek to avoid this. And it should make you realize how terrible the Intifada was because it made the proposition of allowing people to not live in such a situation an unrealistic one.
But it shouldn’t tell you that “the Israeli side is wrong”… because one kid got shot and his mother was upset. How many mothers do you think were crying during the Intifada when Israelis were being killed by terrorists pretty much every day?

    • Noone of Consequence

      5. wtf is up with the dumb fear mongering BS at the end? The US is next in line to live under occupation by military police? Because… the US is full of people who wish nothing more than to blow themselves up murdering innocents in the name of their religion? Uh.. yeah… no… a few hundred police chiefs going to Israel to receive counterterrorism training (because Israel is quite experienced in this) doesn’t support the logical jump he makes here. A lot of the stuff he said before that made pretty good sense but then he just goes off the rails there at the end, I guess to try and make it hit home somehow with his audience.
